Detoxification

Detoxification consists of administering specific medication to eliminate physical dependence and overcome withdrawal syndrome, reducing the symptoms that appear after use stops abruptly.

This process can be carried out on an outpatient basis or through hospital admission.

The outpatient option involves following the prescribed medication from our psychiatrist at the patient’s home, under the supervision of a responsible person—usually a family member—and with the clinical follow-up of the SAP team, who adjust the treatment.

Hospital detoxification is indicated in the most serious cases, when greater containment is required or physical illness calls for close medical monitoring. In these situations, admissions take place in private clinics or public hospitals under agreement with the Fundación Salud y Comunidad, always under our coordination.

Detoxification usually lasts approximately two to four weeks.

Not all patients need detoxification. Each case is assessed individually to determine the best therapeutic option.
