Therapeutic Community \u201cRiera Major\u201d: recovery, treatment and reintegration<\/h2>\t\t<\/div>\n\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t

The Riera Major Residential Therapeutic Centre<\/strong> is a professional care<\/strong> resource whose main aim is the recovery<\/strong>, treatment<\/strong> and reintegration<\/strong> of people with dependence on alcohol, cocaine and other substances<\/strong> (tranquillisers, cannabis, opioids, designer drugs<\/strong>), through intensive residential treatment<\/strong> in a rural setting<\/strong> lasting four months<\/strong>, followed by intensive outpatient follow-up<\/strong> of three months<\/strong> in an urban setting. The centre\u2019s capacity<\/strong> is 25 mixed places<\/strong>.<\/p>

In operation since 2007<\/strong>, the facility has undergone constant development<\/strong>: optimisation of the activity programme<\/strong>, consolidation of a multidisciplinary team<\/strong> (psychologists, psychiatrist, educators, social workers and support workers) and renewal<\/strong> of infrastructure, security, aesthetics and comfort<\/strong>.<\/p>

A distinctive feature<\/strong> of the programme is the intensity of the work with families<\/strong>: from the second fortnight<\/strong> of admission they can keep in contact<\/strong> with the residents, attend weekly group therapy sessions<\/strong> at the centre itself and take part in interviews with the therapeutic team<\/strong>.<\/p>

FSC has prioritised both professional excellence<\/strong> in drug dependence \u2014which guarantees the quality<\/strong> of the intervention\u2014 and the comfort<\/strong> and suitability of the facilities<\/strong>, helping the person to focus on their treatment<\/strong>. The Riera Major residential therapeutic centre (CTR) has very comfortable facilities<\/strong> and spacious areas<\/strong>: swimming pool, gym, volleyball court<\/strong>, dining room<\/strong>, common rooms<\/strong>, double rooms with bathroom<\/strong>, professional offices<\/strong>, laundry<\/strong>, etc., in a privileged setting<\/strong> \u2014the Montseny Natural Park<\/strong>\u2014 which makes it easier to take temporary distance<\/strong> from the usual home environment.<\/p>

The Riera Major Residential Therapeutic Centre<\/strong> is accredited<\/strong> by the Generalitat de Catalunya<\/strong> as a social and healthcare centre<\/strong> and is a member of the Coordinator of Professional Therapeutic Communities and Reintegration Flats<\/strong> for drug dependence in Catalonia.<\/p>

Intensive therapy in two phases<\/h2>

The intervention is structured in two phases<\/strong>:<\/p>

Phase 1 (residential, ~4 months).<\/strong> Intensive treatment in a rural setting<\/strong> to gain distance<\/strong> from habits<\/strong> and from the social group<\/strong> associated with substance use. During this period, where appropriate, physical detoxification<\/strong>, awareness<\/strong> of the problem and motivation for change<\/strong> in addictive habits and attitudes are supported; in addition, skills<\/strong> and tools<\/strong> are practised to maintain abstinence<\/strong> after discharge.<\/p>

Phase 2 (intensive outpatient, 3 months).<\/strong> Follow-up at FSC\u2019s Psychosocial Care Service (SAP)<\/strong> in Barcelona<\/strong> to apply<\/strong> what was worked on in the residential phase and to face<\/strong> the day-to-day difficulties<\/strong> of the person and their family, consolidating abstinence<\/strong> from their own environment<\/strong>. Patients can live at home<\/strong> or in FSC therapeutic flats<\/strong> and travel<\/strong> to the SAP for their therapy.<\/p>

Weekly schedule in the outpatient phase:<\/strong> 2 therapy groups<\/strong>, 1 individual session<\/strong>, urine tests<\/strong>, psychiatry visit<\/strong> and family therapy<\/strong>.<\/p>

Therapeutic programme<\/h2>

First phase (admission, ~4 months)<\/h3>

Aims: complete detoxification<\/strong> (if applicable), awareness of the problem<\/strong>, motivation for change<\/strong> and acquiring tools<\/strong> to sustain abstinence.<\/p>
